Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest and one of America’s most influential Christian leaders, has embarked on an effort to heal divisions between evangelical Christians and Muslims by partnering with Southern California mosques and proposing a set of theological principles that includes acknowledging that Christians and Muslims worship the same God.

The effort, informally dubbed King’s Way, caps years of outreach between Warren and Muslims. Warren has broken Ramadan fasts at a Mission Viejo mosque, met Muslim leaders abroad and addressed 8,000 Muslims at a national convention in Washington D.C.

Saddleback worshippers have invited Muslims to Christmas dinner and played interfaith soccer at a picnic in Irvine attended by more than 300 people. (The game pitted pastors and imams against teens from both faiths. The teens won.)

Don’t you know that “Allah” is Arabic translating into English as “The God”? and that “Jesus Christ” is not not in our Bible until sometime after the first King James Version was printed? And no the Christian God and Allah are not the same. The Christian God is a three person Trinity and Allah is ONE just like the Bible says. (Deuteronomy 6:4).         • KC, you bring up a good point… My response would be ‘Yes’, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob is the same Trinitarian God of Christianity. “How could this be?” one may ask. To understand, one must look into the meaning of the Hebrew word ‘echad’… which is a uniplural adjective describing several items in one unit or group, also called a ‘compound unity’, or a group similar to how a baseball team is one, as a group of several players. See the biblical examples I included below.

          The verse in Deuteronomy 6:4 is called ‘the shema’.

          Sh’ma Yis’ra’eil Adonai Eloheinu Adonai echad.

          “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

          Other examples of the word ‘echad’ being used include:

Now if you want to debate the philosophy and belief in Christianity.. then that is a different argument.. arguing between the faith of Christianity and Islam. Is the God of the Jews of the old testament the same God as in the new testament.. We Christians would say yes.. but Jews call God Yahweh…isnt God in Hebrew in the New testament Yahweh too??       That’s amazing because we as Christians acknowledge Jews as “God’s Chosen People”, and they deny Jesus!!!! Maybe you need to read the Bible particularly Genesis, where God told Abraham to send his son Ishmail and his mother Hagar off into the wilderness in order to be blessed(I will make you the father of a great nation), and in turn God would bless Ishmail, and in turn, make him the father of a great nation. The muslim faith actually comes from the tribe of Ismail……..maybe you should take a few minutes and read a Koran too. It’s not so different from the Bible, and Allah in Arabic translates to GOD.

      • People who preach a Gospel that presents love and peace to all men without exception need to read their bibles. The atonement of Jesus Christ accomplished what it intended that is make payment for the sins of the elect, that is whom He has chosen before the foundation of the universe. That being established, the Gospel is not a message of peace to unbelievers but is the stench of death of which they face under the righteous judgment of their sins. This stands instark contrast to humanistic teachings and fallen man’s perception of fairness. Is God not just in administering justice or meecy to whomever He sees fit? The God of the OT is the God of the NT. The distinction you fail to make is the brutality for His wrath against sin is demonstrated on the Cross of Christ in the Gospel. Repent and believe that the death of Christ is the only means by which God’s wrath may be averted from your frail humanity.

  • I believe that historically, God and Allah as Muslims used the term “Allah” to describe their God, our God, and the God of the Jews. It’s generic meadle eastern term used throughout the Middle east for thousands of years to mean “God” (Singular)., regardless of the word’s origin (Mecca).

    Also Bible and Koran have some mutual agreements within their respective texts and some common texts that teach similar life values due to two converted Jews to Islam when Mohammed was still alive, one of the Jews being a scholar of the Jewish faith. Now notice I said “some.”

    Outside of these few examples, the Koran falls short on salvation because of the obvious influence of man made thoughts and ideas weaved in it’s text due to the Koran’s blatant denial of Jesus Christ as God manifest in the flesh, and it’s denial of the death, burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

    As a result…….the Koran’s, despite it commonality on some levels with our faith can never be reconciled with the Bible, and any attempted reconciliation between the two books will only lead to the Bible being watered down, and souls being lost.

    We need to stand firm in our faith in these least days and not loose what Christ has taught us, but still love and reach out to the Muslim community with love with a Salvation message that is though Jesus Christ alone as Jesus Christ Himself said.

  • The first statement stopped me an I read all I needed to know about Rick Warren. Christianity and Islam, in no way, worship the same God. Christianities God is the creator of all things and with an everlasting love, sent His son to pay for our sin and reconcile us once again to the Father God and provided eternal life in heaven and a future bodily resurrection.
    Islam worship one of 12 gods, Allah, the moon god. This initself is enough said about Islam.
    Christianity is a life-style and Islam is a religion.

Those who fell for his “Purpose driven life” only serves to show the spiritual ignorance of not only the lost world, and sadly, but not suprisingly the “christian” (small “c”) world. Mr. Warren’s concept of the kingdom is completely out of line with the word of God. Jesus Christ came into this “present evil world”(Gal 1:4) to deliver us from it, not to help us to make it a better place. “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch” (Matthew 15:14)

      • I am so glad that SOMEBODY pointed this out. “The son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.” Which is totally reflective of the true God, who is all about freedom within the guardrails of his Word, and the false god, who is all about utter, total and complete bondage in the physical and spiritual realms. Why is this? The false prophet descended through a line traced back to Ishmael who was born out of disobedience by Abraham and Sarah as they got tired of waiting for the promise to materialize, so Sarah (in a move similar to that of Eve!) convinced Abraham to lie with Hagar to get a son. But later, when they got around to believing the promise, Isaac came along when by the five senses they were both too old to have any children. So, like the false god who inspired both Eve and Sarah, the false prophet brought into the senses realm an enemy faith to oppose the purposes of the true God, the father of Jesus Christ. The false god tried to get rid of Israel to stop the coming of the promised seed time after time, but God’s will prevailed as it always does. Now that Christ has come and finished the work of redemption, the damned Devil has continued opposing God’s people whether they by Jew or Christian. However it is too late for that old snake; there is a lake of fire waiting to burn him to ashes in the fullness of time, and a Paradise coming down out of heaven in which he has no part but where all God’s people will dwell with their big brother Jesus Christ for ever and ever. To call Mohammed and Allah as anything other than opponents of Jesus Christ and his father the True God, is to willfully ignore all the evidence of Scripture and all the workings of logic which may be applied to Scripture to see the whole truth.   • One the surface, what Warren is doing LOOKS good. Healing our communities. But in order to do so we must set aside the deity of Christ. And if we do so then we have rejected the basic tenant of our faith. We basically disavow the sacrifice of the Cross.   • It was easy to see through Rick Warren when he partnered with muslim obama when he was elected and he did not use the name of Jesus at the end of his prayer. This is just a ploy to get hussin Jr. reelected and try to unite some christians with his muslim brothers to get their vote. Rick Warren is as much a false prophet as there is in America today.     • C.J., this is the way people with no understanding of spiritual matters couch things. Jesus stood on the Word of God time after time after time. He would declare, not persuade.       Once and for all, we do not worship the same God and no, Allah is not the same word, just in Hebrew. If you knew ANYTHING about it, instead of just spewing ignorance, you would know that Allah was one of the many pagan gods that the Arabs worshiped before Islam even existed as a religion.

      Yes, Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet, but that he was trumped my Muhammed later on. Muslims also completely reject the idea of the Trinity or that God would have a Son, because they see it as a sexual act of God and Mary together. The Quran specifically points out that this is anathema to Islam. So, are you going to reject the Trinity and His Sonship to appease Muslims?

      Muslims also believe that they are the rightful heirs of the promise that God gave to Abraham, as decendants of Ishmael, and not to the Jews, as decendants of Issac, even though God specifically said that it was for Isaac.

      We SHOULD reach out to Muslims but if you compromise the Word of God as Warren does, then you both will fall into the ditch.

      As far as which kingdom that Warren is working for, yes, that is a good question. If you compromise what God has said for ANYTHING, then you deserve no part in His Kingdom.

  • The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit is the ONE God of Christianity. The Trinity is Christian God’s nature. So we can say Jesus Christ is GOD. Now what do you think the Muslims or the Jews will say about that? Do we still have the same God? I don’t think so.

    Islam CLEARLY states: ALLAH HAS NO SON. And the Bible clearly states:

    1.John 5:12: “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (King James Bible)

    So are we still having the same God? I don’t think so. These “religion unifiers” are really not born-again Christians, they don’t know Jesus PERSONALLY. To unify so different religions, means you would have to erase a LOT or doctrines in Christian Bible. It just happens that the SALVATION depends on those Christian doctrines!

    We truly live post-Christian era and End Times. Jesus is returning very soon! Book of Revelation is becoming REALITY very fast! Be ready and look to and hold on to Jesus Christ, the ONLY way to HEAVEN!

    This article is not true. As I wrote before Pastor Rick and Saddleback Church do NOT believe Muslims and Christians worship the same God. He has publicly said to Muslims, “If your God doesn’t look like Jesus we are not worshipping the same God; sorry.” This OC Register article was written a few months ago based off the other untrue articles floating around.

    I think Rick Warren’s membership in the CFR further explains why he is trying to merge world religions with the ultimate goal of a one world religion. Anyone who says that the god of Islam is the same God of Christianity is either severly uninformed or is trying to deceive. This is false teaching. And this is why Saddleback Church will continue to die.

    Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. NO MAN comes to the Father but by me.” No man includes moslems, hindus, buddhists and any other religion that does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as the one and ONLY way to heaven. It’s so sad to watch Rick Warren lead thousands of people down to hell with his “King’s Way” epic fail.

    This is not true. Saddleback Church and Pastor Rick are not a part of Chrislam, a ‘one world’ religion or taking down crosses.

    We believe the Holy Bible is the only inspired, inerrant Word of God. Pastor Rick was quoted as saying in his interview with John Piper when asked if the Muslim God and the Christian God are the same, “My God looks like Jesus Christ…if your God doesn’t look like Jesus then the God we worship cannot be the same….sorry.”

    You can also read what Pastor Warren says for himself below. This is an answer he posted in the comment section of a blog where others had attacked him:

    The so-called “Chrislam” rumor is 100% false. If the guy who started this libelous myth, or anyone else who passed it on, had obeyed our Lord’s command (Matt. 18:18-20) to come directly to me, and then asked what I actually believed – they would have been embarrassed to learn that I believe the exact opposite. As a 4th generation Christian pastor, my life & ministry is built on the truth that Jesus is the only way, and our inerrant Bible is our only true authority.

    As an evangelist, I spend much of my time speaking to non-Christian groups. You cannot win your enemies to Christ; only your friends, so we must build bridges of friendship and love to those who believe differently so Jesus can walk across that bridge into their hearts. Besides, it is not a sin, but rather COMMANDED by Jesus that we love our enemies. In the past 10 years, Saddleback Church has baptized over 22,000 new adult believers- simply because we express love to those who don’t know Christ yet.

    It is nonsense to believe that you must compromise your beliefs, or water down your convictions in order to love someone, or even just treat them with dignity.
    Jesus was called “the friend of sinners” by the legalistic Pharisees because he hung out with (and clearly loved) unbelievers. I HOPE YOU will 1) Always believe that EVERYONE needs Jesus as their Lord & Savior. 2) Have the courage to associate with nonbelievers in order to love them and bring them to the Savior. 3) Consider being called “a friend of sinners” a Christ-like compliment. 4) Refuse to pass on rumors until you’ve checked for the truth with the person accused. The false statements above should be removed.

  • I’m afraid that Rick Warren, like many social-liberal theologians has forsaken God’s truth for a lie just as many former men of God subjected themselves to blending the God of the Bible with New Age practices.

You have taken one act by one member(not an elder) of the church and attributed to the Pastor and leadership. I feel that a full retraction is necessary. When Christians attack Christians, it is very sad.

    It is wrong for governments to discriminate against religion but what if that religion is intolerant and presents a clear and present danger to people of other faiths who are infidels? Many Muslims are peace loving people who just want to raise their kids and have a life. But what if a Muslim becomes “devout” and tries to live out the words of Muhammad? In Islam if you change your faith the penalty is death often carried out by family members. If you say something about Muhammad that someone may take as slandering the prophet the penalty is death.     My God is a God of Love.. I do think he may be on to something.. Think about this people.. Ismael is the son of Abraham.. Ismael is the father of Islam..     Who will best devote their leadership & all their energy to the good of the Nation of the USA?
    Who will champion the cause of freedom?
    Who will be an evangelist to the world for world PEACE & be tough enough to insist upon ethics, laws, principles that align with God’s two greatest commandments?
    Is there such a person on the ballot? Will there be?
    God can use the right person to be His appointed “leader” and God will use people who listen to HIM (God) … to put such a leader in place.
    Will it happen?

    Obviously they are not the same God. The one and only true God is the God of the Bible, and He is distinct from any other God. The Bible describes Him, not some other religion or their book, those only contradict what His nature is truly like. He is a holy God and can have nothing to do with those false religions and their ways. The quran tells its followers to behead those who don’t believe in islam (like us). The bible says to love your enemies. The difference? Life and death and even worse; heaven and hell.

    This is just the next stone on the monument to build the ONE WORLD RELIGION UNDER ANTICHRIST, that unites all the religions as ‘one’ with claims like ‘it’s all just the same ______’. He does this part, the pope will finish the rest of it, etc. Everything Rick Warren said is the opposite of the truth. We can never join forces with them because that would deny the faith. We will be persecuted, ostracized, and martyred for it but that is the only option other than selling your soul to the devil by joining hands with his servants.
