Concerns on MacArthur

Have we really been betrayed by another teacher? Could it be that we have been betrayed by even John MacArthur? Many people have been looking closely at the facts of John’s lifestyle  and ministry and they have been publishing for years – reports that I’ve been ignoring… until now. But the facts are now too obvious and honest to ignore. Maybe we all need to start looking closer at what he (and all Bible teachers) have been saying (and how they live)… Over the last few weeks, this information has been coming to the attention of my family. The evidence is now clear. We have given MacArthur the benefit of the doubt… apparently for too long. Please see the information that has caused us to change our minds. May God raise up more and more people to get in the Word themselves.

John MacArthur’s sizable income

What are you about to see in these next two articles (by different writers), is that John MacArthur’s total annual income is just over $900,000 per year. That number including his IRS recorded earnings from ‘Grace to You’ and his IRS recorded earnings from teaching at Master’s Seminary, as well the writer’s conservative estimation of his earnings from preaching at Grace Community Church (senior pastor there), and their conservative estimate of his earnings from book royalties, and other speaking event earnings. That does not include the basically no-bid contract for the ministry videos and promotions that are sent to the company that his son-in-law is the sole owner of. John’s son-in-law, Kory Welch, earns between $740,000 to $775,000 per year, just on the John MacArthur ministry contracts.

Here is the first article with the short summary:

2010            2011          John MacArthur's Income

$47,000       $103,000     (108% one-year increase) 40 hrs p/week at Masters College

$222,000     $402,000     (81% one-year increase) 20 hrs p/week at Grace to You

Add to the above John MacArthur's other personal income, speaker's fees, etc.:

$200,000    $200,000      conservative estimate of Grace Community Church salary

$200,000    $200,000      conservative estimate of royalties

$669,000    $905,000      TOTAL ANNUAL INCOME (projected)

Then consider this increase in the annual contract John (GTY) pays to his son-in-law:

$658,000    $694,000     Grace to You paid The Welch Group for video work (an example)

The figures above are reprehensible, but we're so attached to celebrity culture, we feel no shame…

Here are excerpts from the second article, titled ‘John MacArthur’s Salary’ --

For "denying himself and picking up his cross" part time, John Macarthur earns more than the President of the United States

Like many corporate leaders John Macarthur is well compensated financially. For example, it's in the public record that for the 2011 calendar year John Macarthur earned $402,444 for working PART-TIME for Grace To You and $103,000 for The Master's College and Seminary.  That's more than $500,000, not counting his church salary, book royalties, speaking fees, etc.

His Grace To You salary can be seen on page 7 of the link here[Page 7 says his salary is: $402,444] Remarkably, for just part time work at Grace To You, John Macarthur earns more than the annual salary of the President of the United States (which is $400,000).  Of interest, John Macarthur's two sons hold the positions of Treasurer and Director at Grace To You…

For 2011, the Executive Director of Grace To You, Phil Johnson, received $218,788 and Don Green, the Managing Director of Grace To You, earned $200,847 (these men earned more than the annual salary of a US senator).  Rufus Harvey, the CFO at Grace To You, was compensated $170,615.  Travis Allen, the Director of Internet for Grace To You, was compensated $139,135.  It's in the public record that seven employees at Grace To You were compensated in excess of $150,000 in 2011.

Want to earn a handsome salary?  Work your way up the ladder of a "non profit religious corporation!"  I wonder what the average annual salary is for those Christians who donate to Grace To You.  How do these Grace To You leaders justify these salaries?  Do they justify these salaries because they adhere to and obey God's Word (truth, holiness, charity, self denial), or do they justify these salaries by assessing and setting their worthiness/value based upon what they (or others they employ) have determined the world's corporations compensate their employees who hold comparable positions (relativity, worldliness, greed, lovers of self)?

The Grace To You 990 form, Schedule O, reveals that they have indeed determined their compensation by employing the world's ways (which they call "an independent compensation study").

In a clear conflict of interest, John Macarthur's ‘Grace To You’ has paid approximately $3,500,000 over the last 5 years (2008-2012) to a private firm solely owned by Kory Welch, his son-in law.  The Welch Group Companies receives approximately $775,000 annually to produce videos for Grace to You.

Every year The Welch Group Companies has been awarded this lucrative contract.  The CFO of Grace To You, Rufus Harvey, once told me that there were bidders for this contract, but when I asked him to reveal the names of the other bidders he replied to me, "We don't have to disclose that information by law."

And here is a third article that notes some high-profile people that MacArthur has hired onto his staff, titled: ‘The Transformation of John Macarthur’s Grace Community Church--How Change Agents are Transitioning GCC into the New World Order

“…
Mr. Rob Iverson—Nestle and TQM
The President and Chairman of the Board of TMAI [
The Masters Academy International] is Mr. Rob Iverson. He’s also the Chairman of the GCC elder board, Senior VP of Grace To You and serves on the board of the Masters College. As of two years ago, Mr. Iverson was the elder in charge of overseeing the Purpose Driven GCC singles ministry called The Foundry. Not included in his TMAI bio is that Mr. Iverson is a Director of Leadership Resources International, a church growth org. (See page 19 of LRI’s
2007 IRS 990 Form)

It’s not uncommon for church leaders to bring business organizational models into the churches from their workplace. As of two years ago, The Foundry ministry, which Mr. Iverson oversaw, was Purpose Driven. One can assume, therefore, that Mr. Iverson is acquainted with the organizational model, TQM. According to the TMAI website, Mr. Iverson was a senior VP for Nestle. “He was responsible for supply chain activities for more than 30 years.” Is Nestle run on TQM?

According to the book, “The yellow brick road: Total Quality Management and the restructuring of organizational culture”: “By 1988, a group of European multinationals established the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM). The 14 original members included Nestle.” The reason for this alliance (EFQM) was to promote and accelerate the usage of TQM. Nestle is the largest food company in the world. According to “Controlling the sustainability of food supply chains” by J Hambrecht, D Corsten, M Noll, and E Meier, “At Nestle, we selected an existing TQM framework as the basis for integrating supply chain controls.” Mr. Iverson was “responsible for supply chain activities” at Nestle for more than 30 years.

It may be of interest to note that at the 2003 Shepherd’s Conference at GCC, Mr. Iverson gave a talk titled “Leadership 101.” In the Handout-Study notes for this talk, Mr. Iverson not only mentions Mother Theresa, M L King Jr., and Gandhi as leadership models, but he made the following statements: “
The Bible always sees men as leaders.” And “Leadership is all about relationships.” These statements he made are slogans for the church growth movement and its leadership. At that Shepherd’s Conference, Mr. Iverson gave another talk titled “Dealing with Disunity.” In the study notes for the talk, Mr. Iverson stated another church growth adage, “God hates disunity.” On the contrary, God hates church unity facilitated by man at the expense of truth…

It looks like Mr. MacArthur’s team has more issues than just high salaries and who’s who in their leadership and what rigid business model they hold to. This next article explains the conflict of interest – making lots of money and giving no bid contract to a family member. Here is a quote from another article, titled: ‘Every Year Grace To You Awards Lucrative Contract to John Macarthur's Son In Law's Firm’--
“… [Note: Since this article was published, The Welch Group has changed its name.  It's now known as
The Welch Group Companies and it's video production arm is now called DormaproductionsTo still see the Welch Group listed on the Grace To You IRS 990 form for 2012, then click here and scroll down to page 34.]

Grace To You (GTY) is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization.  According to the IRS 990 form for GTY for the 2009 calendar year, GTY received approximately $14,000,000 in contributions that year and held approximately $5,000,000 in cash by that year's end.

GTY has "12 voting members of the governing body."  John Macarthur is the President of GTY; his son, Matt Macarthur, is Treasurer of GTY; and his other son, Mark Macarthur, is a Director of GTY. (John Macarthur's sons are considered to be non-independent board members of GTY.)

In the IRS 990 form for 2009, Schedule L, in the section titled, "Business Transactions Involving Interested Persons," and listed under "Contract Services," it's shown that GTY paid $667,000 to The Welch Group Corporation.  The Welch Group Corporation is a video production company whose CEO and sole owner is Kory Welch, John Macarthur's son-in law.  For the calendar years from 2008-2012, The Welch Group was paid the following by Grace To You:

2008--$741,000

2009--$667,000

2010--$658,950

2011--$694,190

2012--$773,798

Total for the last 5 years-$3,534,938…

And this article shows some of John MacArthur’s masonic connections:

http://www.thewatchmanwakes.com/jm_mason_roy_rogers.gif…John Macarthur has a very close relationship with the Masonic controlled Southern Baptist Convention and their leadership (so close that I suspect Grace Community Church is now an SBC front org.).  John Macarthur supports his close friend, Al Mohler, a Southern Baptist leader and a Manhattan Declaration signer who leads two NGO's of the United Nations. (Al Mohler's boss, Richard Land, is a member of the CFR.)  Click here to read more. (http://www.thewatchmanwakes.com/John-Macarthur-Al-Mohler-Dever-UN-change-agents.html)  John Macarthur had Franklin Graham endorse his study bible.  Many sources have stated that his father, Billy Graham, a Southern Baptist, is a high ranking Mason.  Dr. Steve Lawson, another Southern Baptist, and a prominent minister under John Macarthur's umbrella, employing Masonic jargon, refers to God as an "Architect" on his church's website.  Click here to read more.  John Macarthur's father, who was within the highest level of the Masonic controlled ecumenical movement, was also close friends with high ranking Masons (such as Leonard Franklin Slye [pictured above]). Quote from: http://www.thewatchmanwakes.com/Masonic-Symbols-at-GTY.html

And here is another writer’s article, titled: Masonic/Occult Symbols at John Macarthur's Grace To You --

The Sunburst and the Pyramid

In his book, Morals and Dogma, Albert Pike wrote, ‘The Masonic religion should be, by all of us initiates of the high degrees, maintained in the purity of the Luciferian doctrine. . .’

"The late Albert Pike, a Luciferian and highly influential Mason, wrote that the power of his deity [Lucifer] is symbolized by the sun: 'The sun is the ancient symbol of the life-giving and generative power of the Deity.'’

‘The sun has ever been at the center of false religion. The Ancient Mystery Religions venerated the sun, the solar disk, as deity...These pagan philosophies...indicate the importance of the sun as symbol of satanic deity." (Codex Magica, Ch. 22).

‘"Now today, the Masons, as did the apostate Jewish elders and priests in the days of Ezekiel, continue to worship Satan the sun God, also called Lucifer or Baal, by other names.’ (Codex Magica, Ch. 22).

The Word of God states that the idolatry of sun worship is a denial of God:

"If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; and my heart hath been secretly enticed... this also was an iniquity to be punished by the judge; for I should have denied the God who is above. (Job 31:26-28)"

The following logos for John Macarthur's Grace To You depict a letter "A" which resembles a pyramid (a Masonic symbol) within a sunburst.

These next quotes are an article titled: ‘John MacArthur, Mainstreaming paganism in the church.

John MacArthur has a reputation for being a doctrinally sound expositor of God’s Word and a defender of the faith against apostasy. Yet Jesus warned His disciples not to judge ministers by their image but to inspect their fruit instead:

Judge not according to the appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.” (John 7:24)

“Ye shall know them by their fruits. ...A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” (Matt. 7:16-20)

John MacArthur preaches against the Emergent Church and its doctrinal errors, however, his popular book, Slave: The Hidden Truth About Your Identity in Christ, is replete with references to the heretical works of Gnostic, modernist and postmodern scholars who deny the fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith.  Many of these scholars are rabidly anti-Christian and their works, which MacArthur recommends as authoritative, are filled with slander and blasphemy of the Lord Jesus Christ.

For example, John MacArthur favorably references Dale B. Martin’s book, Slavery as Salvation, because it likens the Christian life to the abusive institution of slavery in the Roman Empire.  Dale B. Martin is Professor of Religious Studies at Yale University, an admitted homosexual and author of a blasphemous book titled Sex and the Single Savior which portrays Jesus as a homosexual. Prof. Martin’s true identity is never disclosed in Slave.

Another scholar whose translation of Gnostic writings is recommended by MacArthur is Bart D. Ehrman, Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prof. Ehrman is a New Testament critic who claims that he was an evangelical Christian until he discovered “errors” in the Bible.  Dr. Ehrman now writes books which debunk the New Testament and advocate for Gnostic forgeries such as the Gospel of Thomas and the Lost Gospel of Judas Iscariot to replace the New Testament canon…

John MacArthur claims that he does not lead a denomination; however, his international network of churches, colleges, and seminaries is massive and continues to expand.  John MacArthur has described the success of his worldwide ministry as an “explosion of spiritual fruit and harvest” and for this fruitful harvest he gives credit to the four generations of family ministers who preceded him. Most notably, he praises God’s work through his great grandfather, Rev. Thomas Fullerton, who was the pastor of St. James Presbyterian Church in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for twenty years.  During that period, Rev. Thomas Fraser Fullerton was also Worshipful Master of the Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island, Grand Master of PEI Grand Lodge and Grand Master, Grand Secretary of the Provincial Grand Lodge and held other high offices in Canadian Freemasonry.

John MacArthur may preach against Freemasonry, however, his personal testimony is a tacit admission that his ministry is the “spiritual fruit” of Freemasonry which is dedicated to the abolition of Christianity.  The “harvest” which John MacArthur attributes to his ancestor’s ministry is the Masonic New World Order.

Christians must be informed and vigilant, not only of overtly heretical churches, but of churches and ministries which are reputed to be doctrinally sound but are in reality stealth operations quietly promoting heresy. Unlike the Emergent Church leaders, who dispense with the sheep’s clothing, well-dressed wolves are harder to discern. But they have infiltrated the Christian churches and especially prey upon the youth who have little experience discerning false teachers and false teachings. The 13-part series which follows exposes the deceptive methods by which means John MacArthur is mainstreaming paganism in the Christian community and especially targeting the younger generation…

The following is from several years ago, and it is question and answer time during a Wednesday evening service. John MacArthur’s answer is evil and dangerous.
“QUESTIONER: “Oh, my question is in regard to the latter half of the Tribulation period, when...when men will be required to have the mark of the beast in order to buy or sell. My question is once the person takes the mark, is there any possibility of Him coming to Christ?

JOHN: “Yes, I think, you know, in the seven-year Tribulation coming in the future, we’re gonna get into this, so probably a week from Sunday night, maybe this Sunday night, maybe a week, I’m not sure. But the Tribulation is a seven-year period, right? The Rapture of the church, seven-year Tribulation, then Christ returns, sets up His Kingdom. Now, in that seven-year period, really two things happen. God begins to judge the world in...with a series of holocausts; and, at the same time, He begins to redeem His people Israel; and in the process of this, the antichrist establishes his rule; and in order to function in the economy of the antichrist, you have to take the mark of the beast. The mark being the number of a man, Revelation 13, 666. Six is the number of man, right? Seven is the number of perfection, and man always falls short of perfection, 666, always sixes, never seven. So the number of a man, and apparently what’s gonna happen, you take the mark on your hand or on your forehead; and we’ve talked a lot about that, you know, that...that that’s kind of the computer situation. We’re now moving fast toward the time when we’re going to have to do everything we do by cards and by numbers and all of that, and those number...the thing about a card that’s a problem is you lose it, and they’ve already devised systems to put the number on your hand and on your forehead, and you go through a scanner and, you know, that’s how you buy and sell. It’s automatically deducted from your bank account.

“Now, the question is, if you’re living in the Tribulation period, and you take this mark, in other words, you identify with the beast’s empire, will you still be able to be redeemed? And I think the answer to that is yes. Yes!  Otherwise there would be no salvation of anybody in the end of the Tribulation; and you’ve got to have the salvation of folks in the end of the Tribulation. You’re gonna have the Jews redeemed.  You’re gonna have, according to Revelation chapter 7, ‘An innumerable number of Gentiles redeemed, so many they can’t even be counted across the face of the earth.’  So I don’t think the fact that someone takes that is a sentence to, to permanency anymore than you being a part of this world system once in your life means you have to be a part of the system all your life. Well, especially when 144,000 don’t start their ministry till the second half.  That’d make it a little tough.”…

Article source: http://watch-unto-prayer.org/macarthur-1-mark-of-beast.html

Another article: http://www.thewatchmanwakes.com/John-Macarthur--Mark-of-the-Beast.html

>>> It’s really sad to see Mr. MacArthur pretend that people can be saved after getting the mark of the beast during the 7-year Tribulation. Some of us didn’t expect him to keep falling… but we need to be honest. His quotes show that he has backtracked on what he once rightly taught. Yet, having studied the book of Revelation, and saying he’s teaching the Word literally, it’s hard to believe that he’d lie that badly. Here are 4 passages in Revelation that make it clear that someone who takes the mark in the 7-year Tribulation cannot be saved.

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ‘If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name’." (Revelation 14:9-11)

2 So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image.” (Revelation 16:2)

20 Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.” (Revelation 19:20-21)

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the Word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:4)

Phil Johnson (for John MacArthur) tries to cover up the lies with some word games, but that just highlights how wrong they are even more. You can read his whole response at the link below, but here are a few quotes from that article.

Several years ago in a live Q&A session, someone asked John MacArthur if taking the mark of the Beast during the Great Tribulation would be an unpardonable sin. His answer, in short, was no. Though there is a stern warning against taking the mark of the Beast in Revelation 14, the sin is not categorically said to be unpardonable. (That would contradict Matthew 12:31.) The point of the severe language in Revelation 14 is to make clear what an utterly reprehensible sin it will be to swear an oath of willful loyalty to Antichrist…

On the other hand, only one very specific sin is ever said to be unforgivable. Any sin that is repented of is forgivable. Immediately after declaring all fornicators, drunkards, and swindlers unfit for heaven, the apostle writes, “Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God” (v. 11). After saying, “Whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven,” Jesus famously forgave Peter, who denied Him before men….

This whole issue suddenly became a matter of intense controversy when it was mentioned on a provocative radio program. It’s certainly not worth all the ink that has been wasted and all the bandwidth that has been consumed by angry people demanding explanations and retractions. This much should certainly be clear from the biblical text (and I think would be affirmed by all sides): Taking the mark of the Beast is high treason against Christ and will be judged by God accordingly. Meanwhile, the Lord is “good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon [Him]” (Psalm 86:5).

This next quote is from an article that is asking why John quotes Dale Martin in his ‘Slave’ book?

Dale B. Martin’s Sex and the Single Savior, which blasphemes Jesus Christ as a homosexual, is dedicated to Bart D. Ehrman.

‘Finally, I thank Bart D. Ehrman and dedicate the book to him. His incisive mind and scholarship has been an inspiration and a model. But more importantly, his friendship for more than twenty-five years has been one of the most valued treasures of my life.’ (Sex and the Single Savior, p. xii)

Bart D. Ehrman is cited by John MacArthur as translator of The Shepherd of Hermas, Letter to the Philadelphians from Ignatius and Letter to the Philippians from Polycarp.  In his translation of these non-canonical works, Dr. Ehrman rendered the Greek word doulos as slave. (See Part 3)

Bart D. Ehrman is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he has served as Director of Graduate Studies and the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies. He graduated from Wheaton College and received his Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. He is presently a critic of the New Testament and early Christianity, having written or edited twenty-four books, numerous scholarly articles, and dozens of book reviews.

Bart Ehrman claims that he was a born-again Christian but apostatized after discovering “errors” in the Bible which he attributes to scribal revision.  Now Ehrman writes books that debunk the Bible and promote the false God and counterfeit Jesus found in non-canonical writings…”

http://watch-unto-prayer.org/macarthur-5-falling-away.html

Bart Ehrman’s book on contextual criticism is a very evil attack on the literal Word of God, but it is required reading for most seminary/cemetery students. They are taught how to criticize and dismiss the authority of God’s Word.

This article is a professor explaining why Mr. Erhman’s attack on the Bible is so damaging. http://benwitherington.blogspot.com/2006/03/misanalyzing-text-criticism-bart.html

MacArthur and his masonic connections
John MacArthur is proud of the fact that he bears the “great Scottish name” of MacArthur, that his ancestral roots were the MacArthur Clan of Scotland and that he is related to the famous General Douglas MacArthur:

“RICH: Some of the listening audience have asked about your name. Some think that maybe you’re related to General MacArthur, can you tell us a little about who you’re related to and what about the name?

JOHN: Well, of course, MacArthur is a great Scottish name. We have our own clan and our own plaid and all those things. A recent visit to Scotland on my part reaffirmed where my roots come from. But my family came originally from Scotland. I’m a fifth generation preacher. Men in my family go back to ministries in Scotland and Canada, even in Australia. I am distantly related to General Douglas MacArthur. I understand that I am a fifth cousin. So it’s quite a distance, but nonetheless we are related.” (Grace To You Interview)

“We have seen in Part 6 that the lineage of preachers of whom John MacArthur is the fifth generation included at least one Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Prince Edward Island, Thomas Fraser Fullerton, and other preachers with inappropriate connections to Freemasonry, and that his distant cousin Gen. Douglas MacArthur was a 33º Freemason. Since the five generations of preachers mentioned in MacArthur’s family originally came from Scotland, we will now examine his Scottish roots and, in particular, the great Clan MacArthur.

“Scotland was the refuge of the Knights Templar who fled from the Continent following the Templar purge of 1307 and were given asylum by the Scottish King Robert the Bruce. The origin of modern Freemasonry is documented in Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, which was published in 1872 by Albert Pike who was Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council 33rd Degree, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, the Mother Supreme Council of the World…

Conclusion on John MacArthur:

Every teacher has their correct teachings, and every teacher has their wrong teachings. When their lifestyle starts to show that they can explain away obedience to what they teach, we need to step back and start examining everything they have been saying and comparing it to the Bible, and the Bible alone. We all need to be very slow to give our strong approval to men, especially those whom the world and big corrupt voices praise.

26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” (Luke 6:26)

15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” (Luke 16:15)

There is a network of religious leaders and the big money people who fund and direct them. We need to, as a body of Christ, watch this network more closely to hopefully catch their lies and demonic winds of doctrine sooner, for ourselves and for others.
